DADS and granddads are a regular and popular sight at Largs Public School.

They drop off and pick up their children, usually stopping for a chat with other parents and children.

During the day they can be found listening to children read, helping with groups in the classroom, updating the information board, making lunches in the school canteen, training sports teams, transporting students and cooking barbecues held throughout the year.

After hours they are found gardening, attending P & C meetings, selling fund-raising items, making sports equipment and accompanying children on excursions.

"I feel proud when my father comes up to school and helps to teach the other children drama skills," Year 5 student Emma Unicomb said.

"I like it when the fathers teach us new things," Year 4 student Katie McCrohon said.

"But I like it better when we can teach them things that they didn't know."

To show its appreciation, the school applied for a Dads in School breakfast grant which provided all dads and granddads with an egg-and-bacon sandwich on the Friday before Father's Day.
