FATHERS who attended a special Day for Dads at Jesmond PS were welcomed by a poster hailing them as "Dashing, Awesome and Dedicated".

The day was organised with the help of John Andriunas and Dave Turnidge, from the Family Action Centre, school staff, and Jesmond PS Council president, David Owens.

The aim of the day was to encourage more fathers to participate in their children's school activities and to show the children that dads really valued their education.

"Mums already do a great job helping out around the school," said Jesmond PS principal Mr Barney.

"We would like to encourage more dads to come along and be with us as well."

Almost 100 dads lined up for a cooked breakfast and a morning of fun-filled activities.

"This day was special, for the dads and the kids as well," said Jesmond PS prefect Karen Tembe.

Dads got to know each other, the class teachers and the principal in a happy and friendly atmosphere. They also got to work with their children and join in a quick game to finish up.
